Senani Wickremasinghe is modern designer specialising in printed womenswear that uses heritage techniques such as batik. Her fashion philosophy derives from the idea of seeing the world through the eyes of a modern explorer who has a deep appreciation for culture, heritage and art. Therefore her work is often inspired by travel and the sense of adventure that drives the modern woman explorer.
Senani, a fashion graduate of Northumbria University UK via AOD Sri Lanka, brings in youthful brand mixes in handloom and batik textiles with modern 60’s Quant like silhouettes to the URBAN ISLAND collection. Her shapes are often inspired by British tailoring from shifts to maxi dresses, with a twist of the East that comes through incorporating transitional Sri Lankan attire.
SENANI'S SS17 collection for URBAN ISLAND is inspired temple frescos. Abstracting bright colours from traditional Sri Lankan temple murals and art, her palette is a mix of primary and secondary colours in flat all-out richness. It is a true representation of the solo travel girl whose wanderlust drives her to embrace the mesmerising view into the past cultures that one can only come across at moments of solitary awe while travelling alone.
